Auto production up 23% in Iran in year-on-year 8 month period

11/28/01 Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA -- Total production of various kinds of cars and vans of different auto-manufacturing companies affiliated to Iran's Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) over the first eight months of the current Iranian year (started March 21) increased 23 percent compared to the figure last year, the Persian daily Norouz reported here on Wednesday.

The companies during the period manufactured a total number of 217,142 various types of cars and vans, it said, adding that last year it stood at 147,280.

It noted during the said period, 19,200 Peugeot 405 and Peugeot Pars cars were manufactured by the carmaking companies, showing a rise of 55 percent in comparison with that of the preceding year.

The number of Peugeot RD produced during the 7-month period reached 20,700, it said, indicating a 47 percent growth compared to the last year's output.

Also within the same period, the companies manufactured 51,300 Pride as well as 92,500 Paykan cars, it noted, saying these figures show rises of 19 percent and 9 percent, respectively, compared to the corresponding rates of the previous year.

Meanwhile, it said, the companies' total production of Peugeot 206 and Paykan Samand cars over the same term stood at 4,756, adding the total number of Xantia cars and Caravan vans produced by the companies during the period amounted to 1,502.

The number of various Nissan vans produced during the said eight months reached 11,680, it noted, showing a rise of 36 percent in comparison with the preceding year's figure.

It further noted the companies over the eight months manufactured 2,337 Benz trucks, showing a 95 percent year-on-year growth.

The companies' total production of various kinds of buses and minibuses reached 1,118, the report added, noting the figure shows an increase of 59 percent in a year.
